Nakasato Virtual Museum Mononykus olecranus forelimb |
|
|
Mononykus had an short stout forelimb with a prominent olecranon process on the ulna (lower arm bone) which can be seen in this QTVR object. Also note that the claw, ulna and radius, and humerus (upper arm bone) are all similar in proportion, no apparent trace of other digits, and fused wrist bones. The last feature is shared with modern birds. What do you imagine about function of their forelimb? Its shovel-like morphology may provoke the image of digging animal like living golden mole. |
