Japanese College Student Encountered with New Dino in Gobi!
In the summer of 1996, a Japanese college student discovered a fossilized dinosaur of unknown species in Mongolia.
He found it in Huren Dokh, eastern part of Gobi, where it takes half a day by train from Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. The discovery was made during the one week expedition to Mongolia, which is conceived by the International Internship Program and put on by Japan Travel Bureau.
Afterwards, those fossils were sent to Ulaanbaatar and examined by Dr. Barsbold who directed the excavation in Huren Dukh. He finally found that they bolonged to a dinosaur of a new genus.
The following is the note from Mr. Takei, who found the new dinosaur, describing this valuable discovery with some topics afterwards.

1. The Discovery 09/01/1996

The actual excavation during the tour was only three days, however, our digging team has not been able to find anything special.
The only thing we found by the final day were only a partial skeleton. No entire body at all.
But finally the great finding, which we called "the final-day's luck", occurred in front of us in the afternoon of the day we had to leave the site.

2. The Digging 09/01/1996

When part of bones or fragments were found exposed on the ground, we tried to clean up around them for the possible entire body of dinosaur. We finally recognized that the findings of such bone fragments would not always lead us to the findings of the complete skeleton.

3. The Press Release 10/18/1996

We had a special event on that day at Nakasato village which had a close relationship to Mongolia as described in "The Big Challenge of a Small Village".
While the special exhibition of Mongolian dinosaurs has been held, 2 new namings of dinosaurs from Mongolia were announced by Dr. Barsbold. In addition, a nice informal meeting was held after the press release, in which Dr. Barsbold, some of those who participated in the last summer digging in Huren Dukh and so on got together and enjoyed talking about dinosaurs with drinking and eating.
I was informed of Nakasato Village for the first time at the summer tour, but never been there. So I decided to take a trip to the village without knowing anything about the press release...

4. New Dinosaur's Name? 04/29/1997

One of our crews proposed creating a website of Nakasato Village at the second Nakasato meeting, and the team of "Dino Kingdom Nakasato website supporters" was organized.
When we again gathered at Nakasato to ask Dr. Barsbold for supervision of our WebPages Dr. Barsbold kindly gave us information.

Those days I spent in Huren Dukh were neither too hot nor cold, and nothing like sandstorms nor flies annoyed me, it was comfortable enough to make myself concentrated on searching and digging. In addition, it has been very windy by the day of the discovery so that the weathering could have exposed those valuable bones for me.
I would say we might be very lucky to find the fossil.

Thanks to all the people, rocks and sands at the very place on that time on that day, we made it.
