Though the Nakasato Dinosaur Center is a small museum, it is full of precious fossils which palaeo-enthusiasts cannot miss. One of the most rare fossils is a Sanchusaurus' vertebra which is a dinosaur bone only found in the Kanto region. You will meet with the famous 'fighting dinosaurs' along with many other Mongolian dinosaurs in the Exhibition Hall.
As a whole, up to 100 specimens, including ammonites which are one of the characteristic products of Nakasato, are displayed in this facility. |
| Fossils Found in Nakasato |
Sanchu Terrane is 2 - 5 kilometer wide and 40 kilometer long foredeep which extends from southeast to northwest including Nakasato at its center.
A Cretaceous dinosaur unearthed from this area is called "Sanchu-ryu",which is also referred to as 'Sanchusaurus', a possible largest and oldest ostrich-mimic.
The area also yields numerous fossils of shellfish and ammonites which flourished and died out together with dinosaurs. |
| Mongolian Dinosaurs |
In the age of Sanchusaurus dwelling in Nakasato, Japan was a part of east coast of the continent, and no sea had divided between Nakasato and Mongolia.
In 1996, Mongolian dinosaurs, lived in the age and now had been petrified, flew from Mongolia to Nakasato for 'The special exhibition of Mongolian dinosaur fossils' held from July 1996 by December 1997. Although they already had left Nakasato, their replica was fabricated and have been displayed in Nakasato today.

A 'guest' from Argentina. This is an unusual sauropod with the extremely
